Powerful is a description for the opening performance by the Le Moana Dance Company at a Gala Dinner celebrating Porirua’s 50 years as a city on Saturday night.
Le Moana is a dance company in Wellington, New Zealand that embraces the heritage dance practices of the Pacific. It is a vessel for the exchange of stories, concepts and ideas through the medium of Pacific dance, theatre and film. Artistic Director Tupe Lualua is a graduate of the Internationally renowned Whitireia Performing Arts. This particular performance was a creative collaboration with Kereama Te Ua, Tuaine Robati and Andy Tilo.
Held at the Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua, just 20 minutes north of the capital city of Wellington, the venue was transformed into a magical experience for 650 plus guests to celebrate the milestone and honour 50 of the city’s most generous residents.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph the event which had non stop entertainment for the entire evening. The opening performance was not just powerful, let’s add passionate, vibrant and energetic. Here’s a selection of the images I took of these talented dancers.
